2024 Provincial Championship

Team DAVE was overjoyed to compete at the Ontario District Provincial Championship in the Science Division last week! At this event, we competed against 50 teams from Ontario, including fellow WWFIRST teams.

On the first day, DAVE played in six qualification matches and won all of them, ending the day ranked 2nd. A highlight of the day was when we played with FRC Teams 2056 and 2702 to get a world high score of 155 (150 without penalties), which has since been broken.

The next day, DAVE arrived at 7 AM and played Uno to pass the time before entering the venue. We played in six more qualification matches, winning 4 and losing 2. We were ranked 5th out of 50 teams by the end of the day and had a win-loss record of 10-2.

We started the final day with Opening Ceremonies and quickly moved into Alliance Selection where we selected FRC Team 1114 – Simbotics and FRC Team 2702 – Rebels to be in our alliance with us. We won our first elimination match, moving up in the upper bracket. Next, we went up against Alliance 1 in Match 7 and lost, moving down into the lower bracket. DAVE and our alliance fought a hard battle in Match 9 but lost to Alliance 6. We spent the rest of the day cheering on other teams in the stands.

Congratulations to FRC Teams 2056, 4678, and 9785 for winning both the Science Division and the Ontario District Provincial Championship!

DAVE qualified for the FIRST World Championship and will be competing from April 17th to 20th at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston, TX. We are looking forward to going up against the best teams in the world for the chance to become World Champions!

2024 University of Waterloo Event

Team DAVE was thrilled to compete at the University of Waterloo District Event in our hometown of Waterloo last week. At the event, we played alongside WWFIRST teams during qualification and elimination matches.

On the first day, DAVE played in practice matches before Opening Ceremonies, later competing in eight qualification matches throughout the day. Students on DAVE presented the Impact Award in the morning, but we were unable to win. Although we started by losing our first qualification match, we rebounded and won the next seven matches, ending the day with a win-loss record of 7-1.

DAVE ended qualification matches the next day ranked 1st with a win-loss record of 10-2. We picked FRC Team 4678: CyberCavs (a fellow WWFIRST team), and FRC Team 6875: Amazon Warriors – Build a Dream Robotics to be in our alliance. Our alliance was undefeated during elimination matches, but we lost the Finals matches to Alliance 2. Congratulations to FRC Teams 4476, 5024 and 9659 for winning the Waterloo District Event!

DAVE was recognized for our achievements in the community and as a successful robotics team, winning the Judges Award for the first time. Thank you to all of our supporters who visited us at the event and cheered on the team!

2024 Georgian College Event

Team DAVE is excited to update our followers on our performance at the Georgian College District Event last week, our first competition of the season.

On the first day, we played in two practice matches before Opening Ceremonies, then playing in Qualification Matches. DAVE students presented the Impact Award and were interviewed for the Dean’s List. Unfortunately, we were unable to win Impact Award and will be presenting again at the University of Waterloo District Event this week. We ended the day with a win-loss record of 6-2 and were ranked 2nd at the event.

The next day, we ended qualification matches ranked 3rd and were the first pick for Alliance 1. We were in an alliance with FRC Team 4907 – Thunderstamps and FRC Team 5031 – Full Metal Mustangs. Our alliance was undefeated through elimination matches and won the first two matches of finals, winning the event. Congratulations to FRC Teams 1325, 2702, and 9782 for making it to Finals!

We also won the Autonomous Award for our high-performance robot during the autonomous mode, an accomplishment our Software sub-team is very happy about.

DAVE is ready to compete at the University of Waterloo District Event this week, which will be held from March 22-23 at the Physical Activities Complex. We look forward to seeing our supporters at this event and competing against other teams at this event!

Team DAVE accomplished District Event Finalist at all events, as well as the Entrepreneurship Award at the University of Waterloo Day 1, and the Innovation in Control Award at Windsor Essex Great Lakes Day 2. As a member of the Ontario district, Team 3683 Ranked 5th having earned 239 points and qualifying for the FIRST Championship in Houston, Texas.

Unfortunately, we couldn’t attend the FIRST Championship for our 2022 season. Despite that, we are beyond grateful for all the support we have received over the past year. We are excited to see what the 2023 season brings us.

2020 Humber College Competition Recap

We participated in our first event of the season at the 2nd Humber College District event. At Humber, we went 11-1 during qualification matches and landed within the top 2 teams.

Going into Eliminations, we were the 2nd alliance captain and partnered along with, FRC Team 1114 – Simbotics, and FRC Team 2405 – Techno Trojans. We finished Eliminations undefeated and continued our winning streak at the event alongside 1114. For the first time in history, DAVE also won our first chairman’s award, walking away with not just a District Event win but also qualifying for the FIRST Ontario Provincial Championships in April. Very rarely, do teams win both awards at one event, so we are humbled to be a part of the “cling bling” family. The Humber College District event has laid a strong foundation for the rest of the season.

We are now ready to move forward to our next competition, the Waterloo District which is being held March 20-21 and the FIRST Ontario Provincial Championships held in April, with the momentum given to us by this victory.
